“Great works are performed, not by strength but by perseverance”, a favorite saying of this young lad, a disabled person from Brgy. Sta. Cruz, Loreto, Dinagat Islands. A second year high school of Loreto National High School, he is RYAN KENNETH ESCOBIDO LAURO. He is the 4th son of Norita E. Lauro, a single mother who strive hard in order to support Ryan's studies since his father abandoned them.
Ryan, being not a disable by birth, went to school alone without the aid of his mother but when he was eight year old his locomotor started to deteiorate causing his spinal column to shrink and made his arms and lerg smaller. His mother, having the eagerness to bring Ryan to a Physician failed to do this for she has no money for his medication. Having accepted his fate, Ryan continued his studies with the help of his mother patiently brought Ryan to school riding a “tricikad” (bike with a side car – three wheels) until he graduated his elementary education.
Ryan who is aconsistent outstanding student of their class wants to finish his secondary education and hopefully can finish a course, since he wants to become an Engineer someday. As of now, being a ranking student, he wants to own a computer for he believed this is a great help for hie studies especially that he wants to be a Computer Engineer in the future. He also need to help his mother augment their means of living since the only way Nang Norita supported her family is to accept laundry from their neighbors.
It was July 25, 2008, when Ryan was given a wheelchair by Gov. Geraldine JADE B. Ecleo, MPA. He was the sole recipeint of the Municipality of Loreto, the only student among the seven recipeints of the Province of Dinagat Islands thru the collaborative effort of the DSWD Officer of the said Municipality, Mrs. Rose Cuadra. This time, his mother will not pay for the tricikad driver in going to school but pushing his wheelchair during schooldays.
For now, Ryan was complaining his spinal cord, he expeienced frequent pain and his mother wanted him to bring to a Physician.
The Teaching Staff of Loreto National High School are asking your benevolent heart to help Ryan support his financial needs especially his studies, doctor's medication, food supplement such as vitamins for his spinal cord.
